Craft beer in Colorado
Colorado, alongside California, is one of the two foundational states of modern American craft beer. New Belgium Brewing (1991) brought Belgian-inspired ales to the mainstream. Avery Brewing in Boulder pushed extreme styles. Crooked Stave specialized in barrel-aged sours. The state hosts the Great American Beer Festival every year in Denver.
Colorado's craft beer story
New Belgium's Fat Tire became one of the first widely-distributed Belgian-style ales in America. Coors Brewing's massive Golden facility represents the pre-craft era; the state's craft scene formed largely in opposition to that, championing flavor and complexity over volume.
